Erika Ashley Powers was born in Fort Pierce, Florida, and grew up in St. Lucie County, Florida. She attended St. Lucie West Centennial High School. While at Centennial High School, she explored her interest and passion for the legal system by participating in the Criminal Justice Academy and the Teen Court Diversion Program.
Ms. Powers received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Central Florida, where she majored in Political Science and minored in Legal Studies. She then continued her educational pursuit at Barry University Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law where she received her Juris Doctorate.
While attending law school, she represented the school at various competitions throughout the United States as a member of their Mock Trial Team. During her first summer of law school, Ms. Powers interned for the Honorable Judge Dwight Geiger of the 19th Circuit in Fort Pierce, FL where she discussed application of the law, assisted in review of pleadings, and drafting orders in court proceedings.
She also gained invaluable experience while interning with a local law firm located in Orlando, FL, where she assisted with personal injury matters, including but not limited to wrongful death, catastrophic injuries, negligent security, automobile accidents, and slip and fall injuries.
Upon graduating from Law School and gaining admission to the Florida Bar as a licensed attorney, Ms. Powers returned to the Treasure Coast where she represented clients in a variety of practice areas including civil litigation, personal injury, criminal defense and family law matters.
